Lasso Lassie v0.4 released!

Welp... It's the end of the month, which means the project is officially finished, whether I like it or not...

And I like it!

In retrospect, I'm extremely happy with the progress I made this month. Not only do I consider myself fairly experienced with Godot now, but I also have a lot more experience with things I never had before, such as particles, screen shake, animations, pixel art, and aim assist. All things I would consider very important to modern game development.

But what did I add in this final update? Well now much to be honest. My main focus this week was level design and wrapping up production cleanly. You'll see in this update that I actually have an entire real level! Instead of just having the player mess around in my dev room, haha. I learned a lot about how background assets can really add to a level. Adding cactus, rocks, skulls, and trees to the background helped a lot with the immersion of the level. Without it, it just didn't feel lively enough, and that's something I really never considered (as obvious as it may be).

Other than that, there is actually a win screen now! When you clear the stage of enemies, then Lassie does a little victory pose, which I am quite happy with.

This update features:

  • A full, complete level
  • Victory screen
  • New (royalty free) music
  • Bug fixes

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback along the way! Feedback is, of course, always appreciated, so keep it coming!

As for the fate of the project, for now, I think I am done developing it. It served its purpose as a learning tool, but numerous people have told me to continue development. So if this short project is well received, or I just have an itch to return to it, I will! But for now, I consider it done.

Thank you for reading,
The Default Frogs Team
